Course Description

Introduction
This course provides essential safeguarding training for dental professionals, covering the protection of children and vulnerable adults. It fulfils the UK’s Care Quality Commission (CQC) requirements, ensuring that dental teams understand their roles and responsibilities in safeguarding.

Safeguarding Children
Learn about safeguarding children, including legal responsibilities under the Children Act 2004. This section covers recognising signs of child abuse and neglect, preventing harm, and promoting children’s welfare.

Harming Children
This section defines harm under UK law and highlights the responsibility of dental professionals to report concerns about physical, emotional, or sexual abuse, as well as neglect.

The Safeguarding Lead
Every practice should have a designated safeguarding lead. This section details the lead’s role in developing and implementing policies and ensuring all staff are trained to recognise and act on safeguarding concerns.

Vulnerable Child Groups
Children with disabilities, young carers, and those in challenging home environments are particularly vulnerable. This section emphasises the need for dental teams to be alert to these groups' specific risks.

Warning Signs of Child Abuse
Look at the common signs of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse in children. These sections provide guidance on identifying these warning signs during routine dental visits.

Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults
Vulnerable adults require protection under the Care Act 2014. This section explains how to identify abuse, recognise the categories of abuse, and follow local procedures for reporting concerns.

HCW Responsibilities
Healthcare workers must respond to safeguarding concerns and report them. This section outlines the practical steps to take when suspecting abuse, including preserving evidence and following local safeguarding policies.

The 6 Adult Safeguarding Principles
This section explains the six core principles of safeguarding, such as empowerment and proportionality, which guide healthcare workers in providing appropriate protection for adults at risk.

Categories of Abuse
Learn about different types of abuse, including physical, financial, and emotional abuse, as well as modern slavery, domestic violence, and self-neglect. This section outlines how to identify and address these forms of harm.

Raising a Concern
Dental professionals must know how to raise safeguarding concerns. This section provides a step-by-step guide on reporting to authorities and sharing relevant information securely.

Information Sharing and Recording
