Patient Recalls - Record Keeping
Course Description

Recall Visits
Recall visits are essential follow-up appointments to monitor the patient's oral health after completing a treatment plan. This section covers the importance of recording the interval for recall visits and ensuring that it is based on individual patient needs, oral health status, and risk factors.

Recall Frequency for Adults
Determining the appropriate recall frequency for adult patients is influenced by factors such as oral hygiene, previous dental history, and lifestyle. This section explains how to adjust recall intervals between 3 and 24 months based on disease risk and patient-specific factors.

Recall Frequency for Children
This section focuses on the special considerations for children’s recall visits, including their developmental milestones and higher susceptibility to caries. Recall intervals should be tailored to individual needs, with a maximum of 12 months between visits for most children.

Patients with Special Needs
Tailoring recall intervals for patients with special needs requires a personalised approach. This section covers how to assess the patient’s oral health and impairment severity to determine appropriate recall frequency, often in collaboration with specialists.

Clinical Examination
A comprehensive clinical examination during recall visits is essential for assessing oral health. This section details the steps of a recall exam, including extra-oral and intra-oral assessments, soft tissue evaluation, and reviewing medical history to detect any changes since the last visit.

Diagnosis and Treatment Planning
Based on the clinical examination, a diagnosis should be made, and a treatment plan discussed with the patient. This section explains how to update treatment plans, focusing on preventing disease progression and addressing any new findings from the recall examination.

Course Completion
Participants will complete a feedback survey, take a multiple-choice exam, and receive a GDC-compliant CPD certificate. The course provides dental professionals with the tools to enhance patient recall processes, ensuring effective oral health management and personalised care.
